Amazon launches MP3 store - and it rocks! (well... kinda told you so)
Wired has some good coverage on the Amazon store launch here.
Like I said many times before: Amazon.com will rule the online music turf in less than 6 months. All MP3s from all labels, before Christmas of 2007. And then... bundles, blankets, subscriptions.. and the flat rate. Yeah. I am, btw, publishing a longer post on the Music Flat Rate tomorrow (if I can get some peace and quiet on my plane trip tonight;) so... fire up those RSS feeds.

You're right, this will be huge, and this will definitely get my music dollar over iTunes and their painful DRM any day.

What I am very curious to see is if/when Amazon take advantage of the innovative MP3 pricing model of Amie Street, the start up they acquired earlier this year. If this pricing model (an MP3 can be initially downloaded for free but as more people download a song its price rises, up to a predetermined maximum) is deployed by Amazon they, with their massive pre-existing customer base, could really shake things up. It just needs to be offered by Amazon as a selling option only to any label, major or indie, eager to tout the newest acts on their roster. This could deliver massive viral benefits for the wider Amazon MP3 store considering fans of emerging niche acts are often the most passionate and vocal online (via blogs, forums & social media sites) and no doubt would direct considerable numbers of other music consumers to specific tracks available with this pricing model on Amazon's MP3 store.
