'It's the wild west out there' The Guardian interviews Ged Doherty (SonyBMG UK)

Some interesting snippets here: 'It's the wild west out there' | Media | The Guardian.

"But he (Ged Doherty) is convinced that remodelled major labels, offering a balance of local expertise and global reach, have a future. He says relationships with artists in the digital age will rely on deals being "fair, open and transparent". "I think we're getting it right. But how long have we got? Eighteen months to two years, I'd say. It's the wild west out there in some ways. My whole ethos is about do and learn. For too long, this business was about learn and do. We've got to try these things. We'll get them wrong but that doesn't matter because we've got to try them. If we don't, we're dead."

Disclosure: I was an advisor to Ged Doherty (in 2007)
