My new book "Music2.0" is finally available (so hurry up and order the real thing, or download the 'pay what you want' pdf!)

Hooray! It took a bit longer but we are finally ready to ship my new book, aptly titled Music2.0.  Just for the record, I did not invent the term (did anyone?) even though I am often associated with it (see what Google 'thinks'). I guess that is Creative Commons in its pure form?

"Music2.0" is now available, finally, both as a 'real' printed product, as well as a 'pay what you want' - pdf. Music2.0 is kind of like a 'Best of Gerd Leonhard' compilation (if I may say so myself), 227 pages filled with the best blog posts and juiciest essays from the past 4 years, slightly remixed and tweaked, riffing on that good old subject of the next generation of the music industry. And this may well be my final riff on music, for a while, too - stay tuned.

Anyway, the book continues and expands on some of the ideas and models we cooked up in my first book “The Future of Music” (co-written with my colleague Dave Kusek). It describes what the next generation of music companies will look and feel like, and gets even deeper into some of my favorite buzz-phrases such as Music Like Water and the Flat Rate for Music, Feels Like Free (FLF), the Usator, Friction is Fiction, and the People Formerly Known As Consumers.  Oooops, yes, sorry for the geek-speak!

Now, on to more serious matters: to get your copy of the book or to discover the 'pay what you want' pdf download link, hurry up (we don't actually have that many copies with this first print run) and go straight to the Music20book.com site. If you are ready to shell out some cash (yeah, we'll take any currency, $, too;) and order the real thing, please note that we will accept Paypal (and credit cards, via paypal) and will ship anywhere in the world. The book is in a pocket-book format (perfect for those airplane seat pockets); see the zip file below.

 

The best part, I think, is that your payments actually go directly to me (yes...writers should get paid ;) - there is no publisher involved this time. Imagine that. But - this is mostly because I received 100s of mails from people wanting to read my essays and blog posts in a 'real' book format, asap, so I teamed up with fellow entrepreneur Kimmo Pekari, in Stockholm, and we decided to print this one ourselves and sell it direct. The book (and the pdf) is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License, as usual.

Is Music 2.0 going to be available on audible like "the Future of Music”? I listened to that and thats how i found out about you.
