People now pay more to express themselves - and less when they consume

Something I picked up in the various Picnic conference conversations (and yes.... they were many;)
My own, Music 2.0 presentation at Picnic is a good fit with this realization

Madanmahan Rao has a good summary of the Picnic 08 conversations, btw, here

Hi Gerd,

great thought and interesting thesis...
But why is this? Are there any hints?

I think it's because people are craving EXPERIENCES now. They are tired of one-way broadcasts, schedules and other people's selections (no all of them, yet, of course). Content is perceived to be worth more when it comes with ConText.

Hi Gerd,

I can easily agree with this thesis. In Portugal, I developed an investigation about the motivations of the interaction in an expressive phone-in radio program and I concluded that a correlation could be established between a majority of respondents who justified his participation with citizenship reasons, but, at the same time, they said they could pay to ensure his participation.

Thanks for the comment Vitor!
