According to Strategy Analytics the figure is not yet $100 billion. According to them, sms revenues were "only" $65 billion in 2007 and are expected to exceed $88 billion by 2012 [1]. Still, the fact remains: it's a gigantic revenue for a service that hardly existed a mere decade ago.
This could also be great news for the record industry, considering that digital music revenues were only $2,9 billion last year but could skyrocket if the price of legitimate use of digital music would come down.
Today the situation of digital music is in many ways identical with the state of sms in 1998. How about sending songs via sms, for instance?
