Personal branding in the digital age: new video

This video is part of a new series of 5-7 minute videos I recorded here in Basel, Switzerland in July. This episode shows about how I use social networks and mobile-optimized platforms / apps to spread the word about what I do. I also provide a few examples of the most efficient and viral online branding concepts that I have tried during the past decade.  You can download this video if you go to my GerdTube.net video channel (on Blip.tv) or just subscribe to my video podcasts in iTunes.

Google + : funny video about 'circles'

Love it - nice to add some humor to this topic. Google + does seem to be taking off like a fire cracker - add me to your circles if you want :)

Very cool Google image search update: just drop an image into the search box!

... could be potentially very powerful for my research work: just drop an image into the Google Images search box and find lots of related stuff. Nice.

Video: the future of shopping (KinectShop)

This is what happens when you connect MSFT's Kinect platform with shopping. Via FastCompany:  "A new augmented reality shopping platform for Xbox Kinect will allow users to try on clothes in true 3-D, share photos with friends, and store wish-listed items on smartphones for shopping on-the-go... "The customer can visually see what an object looks like on them without even entering a retail store," Steve Dawson, Technology Director for the Emerging Experiences group at Razorfish tells Fast Company. Unlike existing virtual shopping that shoehorns 2-D photos on top of body snapshots, "with Kinect, you can find the physical outlines of a person and map it to your body."

Brands are becoming publishers (Nike+ GPS app)

Impressive way to sell a show: give us reason to buy. Allow us to join the tribe.  Give us EXPERIENCES.

Great video on the power of sound (via Julian Treasure)

The garbage bin makes a sound when you throw something in, and the amount of garbage collected doubles - make something fun and it will work better is the lesson. Powerful thought. Thanks to Julian Treasure at TheSoundAgency for posting this video.

Check out my daily Twitter 'Paper' created by Paper.li

Gerd leonhard on paper.li

Very cool tool - simple and useful. Paper.li organizes links shared on Twitter into an easy to read newspaper-style format. Newspapers can be created for any Twitter user, list or #tag. A great way to stay on top of all that is shared by the people you follow - even if you are not connected 24/7 !

Amazing video: what a small child does with the iPad: it's a playing tool!

There is so much to be learned from this video - be sure to watch it. Clearly, the iPad (and hopefully, many other cool tablets that will follow in its wake now) is an altogether different way of 'computing'. GUI becomes NUI (natural user interface), at last. Finger-sweeping on a touch screen, and literally playing with the screen and the interface and the apps - definitely not a work tool as much as a reading + watching + consumption ++ playing tool. And yes, agreed, the iPad is a walled garden, it is Control in a very shameless form - and it still rocks. Confusing, maybe, but not enough to disregard or destroy or even. ...blend it.
